Happy Tails
There is nothing more rewarding to a rescue than its “success stories”. Here are some of our former “Southern Treasures” now in their forever homes…
I couldn’t pick just one picture of sweet Bertie girl! Bertie has been wonderful company! She is very easy going and definitely easy to love. She is so well behaved and sweet to everyone she meets! Bertie enjoys going on walks, going to the dog park and even kayaking! Bertie even got to come to Lake Martin where she rode on a boat and in a kayak. She loved both. However, what she enjoys most is snuggling up and taking naps. Bertie has been the perfect dog & I am so thankful she has become part of the family. I want to thank you for taking such good care of Bertie while she was in foster care. Thank You Southern Treasures!
Thanks Again,

Rascal had been living on the streets for some months, but a kind lady was providing food for him. Rascal was taken into our rescue and made a “Southern Treasure”. Here is our boy now!

Thanks to Southern Treasures Animal Rescue, we have added a lovable dog named Rascal to our home. Although Rascal had been badly mistreated before he was rescued–having been shot with lead pellets and partially blinded in one eye, for instance–he received extraordinarily kind treatment in foster care. By the time we adopted him, Rascal had received excellent medical attention and already had learned basic commands. He’s smart and well behaved. Most importantly, he had learned to trust people. In fact, he snuggles up to everyone he sees. We’re enjoying filling up his “love bucket,” which had been empty for so long.

We appreciate the way Southern Treasures interviewed us carefully, passed along important medical records, allowed us to call with questions, passed along Rascal’s favorite toys and other essentials, and followed up to make sure Rascal was adjusting to his new home.
Thank you!

We are a retired couple, who had been looking for a sweet, young dog to adopt for companionship. We have always been fans of Labrador Retrievers and found our home awfully empty after losing Morgan, our yellow lab of 14 years. Our initial plan was to wait a year and do some traveling, but we found it too painful and empty to live in a dog-less home. After all, we had a 26 year history of being greeted at the door by one or two wagging tails.
We spotted Lil girl through the Petfinders/Paws/Star website. She was being fostered by a lovely couple who lived just west of Mobile. Lil Girl, now known as Mulligan, is such a sweet and loving girl and so well behaved. We fell in love with her right away. We just love her playful personality and she has brought so much joy and happiness back into our lives. When we adopted Mulligan, she was already house broken, crate trained, walked on a leash and rode well in a car. She was healthy, happy and knew many commands. Mulligan was our first experience with a dog rescue and as it turned out…she rescued us right back!!

Our experience with Southern Treasures Rescue was nothing short of terrific. We were drawn to the Southern Treasures website by the pictures, video, and description of the dog that we were interested in adopting. The website content was informative, comprehensive, and turned out to be completely accurate! During our correspondence and telephone conversations with Maryann Moreland, it soon became abundantly clear that they cared deeply for their animals, and that her organization’s priority was to find the best possible home for their rescues. We were very impressed by the medical treatment that our dog received while in the care of Southern Treasures. He was heart worm positive and was running a high fever when they pulled him from the shelter. This did not deter them in their effort to save this animal. They spent whatever time and money that was necessary to rehabilitate him, and make sure his forever family got a healthy and well adjusted dog. In fact, our vet was very impressed with the care and what she assumed was spent on his health, while in the care of Southern Treasures. She stated that no one could have done a better job. In conclusion, the dog that we adopted is everything that Maryann said he was, and he is everything that we want in a dog! Keep up the good work!

What else can I say about Simon, now known as Darby? Simply put I am so happy that he has joined our family. I know it seems weird but he just fits. From the first couple days we had him he seemed like he had been with us for his whole life. He is so full of personality and love. To tell the truth I can’t imagine not having him. Everyone who has met him has instantly fallen in love including my mom’s dog Tripp who is always apprehensive of new things. I can never say thank you enough for letting us become his forever home.

Losing my Jerry of 11 years at the beginning of the year left a huge void in my life. I haven’t been able to work for years, but he kept me company and brightened up every day for me. I just knew when I saw Twinkie’s (now Daisy) video on Petfinder and talking with Maryann about her that she was supposed to be my dog.
Daisy has brought some healing to my heart & fills a void that only a dog can. She is definitely part of our family! I’m so thankful Daisy was rescued by Southern Treasures! She had heartworms so I’m also very grateful for Maryann putting her time & love into getting her healthy again. Some people may feel like the screening is a lot to go through. However, I think it shows how much this rescue group loves these dogs, and wants to make sure they go the family or individual most suitable. Thank y’all so much for what y’all do!
Much love, David, Stephanie & Daisy
